  • SPOTIFY!! (I\’m trying not to hate…)

    So I finally sort of gave in late last year and created a Spotify account…

    Initially I posted a playlist of jazz for a friend that I thought she might appreciate.  Jazz 4 Zsofi is for people who have had bad experiences with jazz but are willing to give it another shot…

    I just receently posted another that started out as a CD compilation for another, younger (i.e., teen-aged) friend.  As a \”card carrying O.G.\” when it comes to music these days, I would rather educate than complain about ignorance.  Curmudgeon is a cute word, but I\’d rather not be one when I can help it…

    So, I\’ve compiled the first in a series called Music Everyone Should Know.  I\’m not starting out with \”the most important\” tunes, just some important tunes.  As such, other music fiends will see huge holes in this list.  Feel free to comment and school me!

    Next up on my \”to-do list\” — get back to doing some radio shows!  Until I get my act together, please try to enjoy these bits.

It features music by Los Chicos Altos & Palo Q\’sea, Federico Aubele, Lenny Ibizarre and many others.  There\’s definitely some tunes included that will become lounge/chill-out classics.

    This coming Friday I\’ll be sharing the stage with a few local legends of the Barcelona DJ scene, DJ Panko (Ojos de Brujo, Lenacay, Electrorumbaiao,) DJ2D2, Guille de Juan (Playtime) and our host Professor Angel Sound for \”Night of the Zombeats\” at Trip Club!  Trip Club is his baby and the Professor has been bringing great talent to town every Friday: Nightmares on Wax (Warp Records,) Silicone Soul (Soma Records,) Pete Herbert and last Friday Miguel Puente.  The venue, El Molino, is a really beautiful club and goes until the wee hours…

  • Saturday Brunch!

    Back in Barcelona this Saturday for a Brunch Session at Dos Trece!  From 1pm til 5pm there are bottomless mimosas, great food and marvelous music!

    Among with the usual mix of new and classic tunes I\’ve included a short tribute to the man pictured above, Joe Sample.  He is most known for his work with the (Jazz) Crusaders, but has worked with people as varied as Joni Mitchell, Miles Davis and Michael Franks.  The Average White Band tune \”Put It Where You Want It\” is a cover of Joe\’s tune written for the Crusaders and the Michael Franks track \”Chain Reaction\” is another Crusaders song.  Mr. Sample passed away recently and has been a very influential person in my musical development.
